Sparta firm makes 30-foot fiberglass eye for Chicago exhibit

Don’t expect this eye to blink first if you stare at it in downtown Chicago. A 30-foot-diameter, steel-reinforced fiberglass eyeball with a blue iris is being built at FAST Corp. in Sparta. It will be on display from July 7 through October in Pritzker Park in downtown Chicago as part of the Chicago Loop Alliance’s inaugural Art Loop 2010.
The event is expected to be an annual celebration of public art in the Loop. It will feature a new work by a major artist each summer.
