2009 ANNUAL REPORT
At our 2008 annual meeting, we declared 2009 as The Year of the Loop - a year-long campaign of events, public art installations, and marketing initiatives that would invite the public to see all that the Loop has become. I am proud to say that we have realized that vision-and what a year it was!
In 2009, CLA launched several innovative and ambitious programs in support of our mission of promoting the Loop. Through Pop-Up Art Loop, the Streetscape Planter Program on State Street, and Winter WonderLoop, we created partnerships and collaborations that promoted the Loop as a destination. We also launched an innovative new initiative aimed at linking our large and vibrant student community with Loop businesses: LoopUChicago.com. The economic impact study update we commissioned confirmed that higher education continues to be a thriving and growing sector in the Loop - and on that is a key driver of our economic engine. We will continue to build programs that foster this ongoing collaboration.
Several highly anticipated real estate projects came to fruition in 2009, and have added a palpable vibrancy to the Loop: The Modern Wing of the Art Institute, Block 37, The Sullivan Center, Pritzker Park, and theWit Hotel, to name a few. I continue to marvel at the way new entities weave their way into our historic landscape, offering a mix of amenities that is distinct and not matched in other cities.
CLA remains steadfast in supporting the Loop as not only a place to work, but as one of the most charismatic business, educational, residential, and cultural communities in the country. We are committed to our members, and expanding the ways in which we can be a resource for them. In 2009, we were able to increase networking opportunities from quarterly to monthly. Looking ahead, we will continue to be responsive to evolving member needs. In 2010, we are also excited about a new summer art installation by renowned artist Tony Tasset that will be larger than life, along with expanding our Pop-Up Art Loop and Streetscape Program.
